Online Education and the Role of HEC
Online Education and the Role of HEC

HEC's policy three months ago today was something else, according to the chairman of HEC: "We will provide education bundles to students, we will provide laptops to students, we will upgrade Learning Management system for online lectures, assignments and educational materials.  We will provide CDs to students who do not have internet”.  After three months, we did not get any education bundle, but the internet service observed slower, nor any of the students get any laptop, Learning Management system failed in almost every university,  CDs takes weeks to reach the students, what will they compete by watching from this CD, in this era of competition.  None of the students have received a CD yet, the question is will they play the CD on tape or radio?  Students should have a laptop for playing CDs.
Now, when the HEC failed to provide all these facilities, the chairman of the HEC issued a very irresponsible statement " Those they do not like to study online they can freeze the semester”. Students are waiting from three months, HEC and the current government to come up with better facilities for them. Now why HEC changed his policy, Is the chairman of the HEC unaware that the age of the students who will freeze the semesters is also a matter of job?  The purpose of the HEC is only to complete the curriculum  Not the character building of the students. Statement showed that HEC is playing with the bright future of Hundred thousands students.
Even in this pandemic Covod-19 , the universities, working on the HEC policy, did business in the name of education they charged extra fees, I.e libraries, transport, labs, hostels, etc. In these circumstances, the universities were expected to do some research to deal with the Covod-19, but Universities has been able to do nothing but increase the hardships of Pakistani students and the fee business. Secondly final year students,  they are given short time to submit their theses, now the question arises that the students do research in this Covod-19. Now the situation is such that no one bothers to talk to each other, sneezing and coughing are considered more dangerous then atomic bomb.  What can students do research in such situations?  If something happens to a student, who will be responsible for it HEC or University? Is researchers thesis more important than Students life? Questions arises.
Pakistani Students are not against the online education, if the Government provide the online education with facilities. It would be better to suspend online classes all over the country. Education is the basic right of all students. The claims made by Chairman of HEC three months ago should be implemented in reality, within ten days then online classes should be started all over the country. So students across the country can benefited. If the Government can’t do anything then students should be promoted in the next semesters, without any waste of time.
